  Privacy Levels

The following is a description of the management levels for information about Harvard people.

Restricted
Most restrictive; no public accessibility, share only as mandated by law or as required for Harvard administrative or educational functionality.
School or Tub Level Only
Not shared with Harvard Operators, or published in University printed phonebook or online directory. Data may only be shared within a school or tub. A local department must not publish in online locations that are accessible to users from outside the school or tub. Information should not be posted in areas that are accessible to the public.
Printed Directories Only
Printed Phonebook & Harvard Operators - Publish in internal Harvard printed documents, and provide to the Harvard Telephone Operators. Internal printed documents include the Faculty & Staff Telephone Directory and the Student Telephone Directory. Note that these documents may be available to the public in certain University locations. Telephone operators may provide e-mail address or campus mailing address information to outside callers.
Within Harvard
Inside Harvard - In addition to level 3 publication, data are accessible electronically to anyone using a computer that is on the University networks, or to users of computers from outside the Harvard network, who are able to identify themselves as Harvard users by authenticating with the University PIN system.
Public Data are accessible electronically to anyone on the Internet.
